The Valkyrie Relay is a seven-discipline team relay: trail run, mountain bike, road cycle, stand-up paddle, open-water swim, river paddle and road run, covered by one team across a single day in the San Juan Mountains. Registration for 2027 is not open yet.

Registration is team-based.
One captain registers the team and holds the entry. Teammates then join that team and complete their own details. Final roster requirements and submission deadlines will be published before registration opens.
Across the day your team covers all seven disciplines: trail run, mountain bike, road cycle, stand-up paddle, open-water swim, river paddle and road run.

What a team entry costs
One entry covers the whole team, however you split the seven legs between you. The first twelve teams in enter as Founding Teams and keep a permanent place on the Founding Teams page. After that cohort closes, entry continues at the windows below.

Entries close before race day. A limited late window may open at a premium if capacity remains.
Prices are inclusive of all registration fees. Nothing is added at the end of registration. Every price step is announced in advance.

Home Team Challenge
Racing for the home crowd?
Enter the Valkyrie Relay. Compete in the Home Team Challenge — a standing of its own for teams racing out of the Durango area, with its own recognition on the results board.
This race runs through your streets, your trails and your river. The Home Team Challenge exists so that finishing first among the teams who call this place home counts for something on its own terms.
Home Team teams register through the same process, on the same dates, at the same entry price as every other team. The Challenge is a competition category, not an entry type and not a discount.
Your team qualifies when at least four of the seven legs are covered by racers who live, work or attend school in La Plata County. A team competes in one Challenge only - if you qualify for more than one, you choose. There is no separate entry and no extra fee.
Proposed volunteer credit

We are developing an optional $75 credit for teams that provide two approved event volunteers. The opportunity would be available to every team - not only local teams - and would be issued after the required shifts are completed and verified.

What teams should know
The things people ask before they commit
Where each policy stands today. The two still being finalised are marked, and both are published in full before registration opens.
Roster changes
At past Valkyrie races, teams could change teammates up to packet pickup. The 2027 roster deadline, and the process for changes after it, are being finalised and will be published with the race rules.
Transfers
If your team cannot participate, the entry may be transferred to another team with Valkyrie's approval until the published 2027 roster-lock deadline. Transfers must be at or below the amount originally paid; entries may not be resold at a markup.
Refunds and deferrals
Entry fees are not refundable and are not deferred to a later year. Entries may be transferred instead, with Valkyrie's approval. If Valkyrie cancels the event, Valkyrie will refund the event entry amount paid to Valkyrie. Third-party processing or service fees are refundable only to the extent they are returned by the applicable provider.
Waitlist
If entries fill, a waitlist is how any spot that opens back up gets offered. How those offers are made is published before registration opens.
Waivers
Every racer signs a waiver in their own name. A parent or guardian signs for any racer under 18.
Age requirements
Minimum ages for 2027 are being set with the event's insurer, legal counsel and medical advisor, and are published with the race rules.
Required equipment
The water legs carry mandatory safety equipment: a US Coast Guard approved Type 3 or Type 5 flotation device for river paddle and stand-up paddle racers, and a leash tethering SUP racers to their board. Flotation aids and snorkels are not permitted on the swim. The full list is published with the race rules.
Why registration closes early
Headcount for insurance, permits, safety coverage and supplies locks well before race day. That is why entries close ahead of the event rather than at the start line.

How many people are on a team?
Team sizes for 2027 have not been published yet. The entry price is per team, not per racer, so the price does not change with your roster - a bigger team simply splits it further. The confirmed team sizes go up here before registration opens.
Can I race it on my own?
Valkyrie has run solo categories in past years alongside team entries. Which categories exist in 2027 is not confirmed. Join the registration list and you will hear when it is.
Can I register before I have a full team?
Final roster requirements and submission deadlines will be published before registration opens.
Can I get a refund?
Entry fees are not refundable. Entries may be transferred instead, with Valkyrie's approval. Costs commit earlier than entries do. Teams that enter in the first window take on the most uncertainty, so they pay the least. Every increase is announced ahead of time.
What should we plan for travel?
The race is in Durango, Colorado on September 18, 2027. Course locations for 2027 are still being confirmed, so hold off on anything that depends on a specific start location.
