The Race App
One app for the whole team. Race Operations talks to every racer through it, your team talks to each other in it, and on race day it is where the announcements land. Your invite follows your registration.
What it does
Eight things the app has done for teams at the last two Durango races. Expect the same shape in 2027; the details for the year are announced in the app itself.
Announcements that reach everyone
Start-time changes, weather and lightning updates, timing-chip hand-off instructions, parking and packet pickup, when awards start. They arrive as notifications on your phone, from Race Operations, all at once.
The all-athletes channel
Every racer and Wingmate in one place. Ask Race Operations a question and the answer helps everyone; the photo contest lives here too.
Your team's own group
Private to your team: your teammates, your Wingmates and, on request, friends or family. Photos and updates in real time on race day, and the quickest way to reach Race Operations about your own team.
The captains' group
A direct line between team captains and Race Operations for packets, the start line, rentals, parking and roster questions.
One group for each leg
Trail run, mountain bike, paddleboard, swim, road cycle, river paddle and road run each have a group: course questions and leg-specific notes with the people racing the same sport.
Need a teammate?
Post the leg you still need, or the sport you race. Replacements have been found this way days before the race. Before you register, the Community board on this site is the public version.
The course walkthrough
We have run the pre-race course walkthrough as a live video session in the app, recorded for replay: what changed on the course, the contingency plans, and questions answered on the spot.
Race week goes app-only
Once registration closes, email goes quiet and every question goes through the app - the all-athletes channel or your team group - so nothing is missed in the last days.
Set it up in five minutes
Six steps. Do the first three today; the rest before packet pickup.
- Register
You are added to the app with the email address or phone number you registered with, shortly after you register. Teammates are added as they join your roster. Past racers get a fresh invite too - everyone joins the 2027 space the same way.
- Get the app
Search Pronto: Team Communication in the App Store or Google Play, or go to pronto.io/download. It also runs in a browser at accounts.pronto.io and as a desktop app.
- Sign in
Enter that same email or phone number. There is no password: Pronto sends a six-digit code. On a phone you stay signed in until you sign out.
- Turn notifications on
Race-day announcements and start-time changes come as push alerts. Keep them on from packet pickup to the finish.
- Add your Wingmates
Email each Wingmate's first name, last name, email and phone number to info@valkyrierelay.com (not into the group chat - it is their contact details). Every Wingmate needs the app on race day.
- Spectators, on request
Since 2025 we have added friends and family to team groups on request, so they can see your photos and cheer you on from wherever they are. Email us their name and email or phone the same way, with their OK.
Between races
The app does not close when the race ends. Results, photos, next year’s news and the returning-racer conversation all happen there. Past racers are invited alongside the 2027 field, so come back in, find your old teammates, and talk about the race ahead.
House rules
- Ask in the open. Questions for Race Operations go in the all-athletes channel or your team group, where the answer helps everyone.
- Notifications on. From packet pickup to the finish. A start-time change at dawn only works if it reaches you.
- Photos welcome. Post them to your team group or the all-athletes channel. The best of the day wins the photo contest.
- A shared space. Teammates, Wingmates, volunteers and families are all in here. Be kind, be brief, and keep it about the race.
- Not an emergency channel. In an emergency call 911 and follow course marshals and race officials. The app is for information and coordination; it cannot confirm that anyone has read a message.
Questions
Do I need an account or a password?
No password. Your account is simply the email or phone number from your registration; Pronto texts or emails a code each time you sign in on a new device.
Does every teammate need it?
Yes. Every racer and every Wingmate. It is how your team hears about a start-time change and how Race Operations reaches you on the course.
Does it cost anything?
The app is free to download, and you will never be asked to pay for it to take part in Valkyrie.
I can't sign in.
Use the exact email address or phone number you registered with. If it still fails, email info@valkyrierelay.com with your name and team and we will check what we have on file.
Can spectators join?
On request, to your team's own group: email their name and email or phone to info@valkyrierelay.com with their OK, and we add them as time allows.
Is this the same as the Community board?
No. The Community board on this site is the public place to find or build a team before you register. The app is for registered racers, their Wingmates and invited spectators.
The app is Pronto, a team-communication app; Valkyrie runs its own space inside it. Pronto’s own help pages cover downloading the app and signing in. Anything about the race itself, ask us in the app or at info@valkyrierelay.com.
