Durango Wingmates
Wingmates are the logistical backbone of a Valkyrie team. While the athletes compete across multiple disciplines, Wingmates help move people and equipment, coordinate transitions, monitor official information, and keep the team operating safely. Wingmate requirements are different for every Valkyrie race, so always follow the instructions for your specific event and race year.
2027 Wingmate requirements
What Durango Wingmates do
Move the team
Transport athletes between approved locations across the course.
Move the gear
Bikes, paddleboards, watercraft, clothing and team equipment.
Stage and retrieve
Deliver equipment to approved staging areas and collect it after each leg.
Track progress
Monitor the team’s expected progress and official race communications.
Support athletes
Approved food, hydration, clothing and replacement equipment.
Respond
Help the team handle delays, weather, injury or equipment problems.
A Wingmate is not
A competing athlete (unless separately registered) · a substitute racer · a race official · a Valkyrie volunteer · a general spectator. Wingmates may provide assistance only at the locations and in the ways permitted by that race’s official rules.
