Valkyrie is a seven-sport race across the San Juan Mountains and the Animas River in Durango, Colorado. Most athletes arrive as relay teams of specialists. You are reading this page because you would rather bring nobody.

The Full-course solo mark, set 2023
Built for a team. Taken alone.
The course was engineered as a relay: trail run, mountain bike, road cycling, stand-up paddleboard, open-water swim, river paddle and road run, sequenced so a fresh specialist takes each one. A relay athlete races a leg and rests. You take every next start already spent. That is the entire proposition - a format designed to be divided, refused.

The record so far
Three athletes have finished this race alone. In Durango’s first year, Dalton Cole took the Full course solo in 14:18:59, eighteenth overall in a field of relay teams. Paul Roberts soloed the Sprint the same day in 8:37:37; a third finisher took the Sprint in 9:21:49 in 2025. Five editions of finishing times are published in full - read them before deciding what a day can hold.
The Full course has one name on it
One athlete has finished the Full course alone, once, in 2023: 14:18:59. It has not been done since. The mark is real, it is published, and it has been standing there for four years. Beat it and the archive updates.
Or take it as two
The Duo splits seven disciplines between two athletes, however you choose - there is no required split. A swimmer-cyclist and a runner-paddler is a Duo. So is six legs and one.
You will not finish alone
Valkyrie ends at the Bivouac - the basecamp where seven legs go out and everyone comes back. It is full of relay racers who just divided among a whole team what you carried alone. They will know exactly what they are watching when you cross.

Durango, Colorado - September 18, 2027. Course distances for 2027 are being verified and are not published yet. Registration is not open; solo and Duo entry requirements publish in the Race Bible before it opens, and it will be announced here first.
